The Assault

The Brecourt Manor Assault was an engagement which involved Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne, made famous by the popular book and HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers". This engagement took place on the morning of June 6th, 1944 during Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Europe. During the night drops into Normandy by Allied paratroopers many were scattered and ended up missing their assigned drop zones. This resulted in many units be extremely divided including Easy. Twelve men of Easy Company which included the company executive officer Lieutenant Dick Winters were able to rally together and eventually find the Battalion Headquarters in the small french town of Le Grand Chemin. Upon reaching the town LtCol. Strayer the battalion commander called for Lt. Winters and gave him orders to take his men to take out 4 German 105mm artillery battery's just to the south east of the town in a well camouflaged hedgerow and trench system.

The twelve men of Easy Company then made their way through the hedgerows and assaulted the first gun. Upon their capture of the first gun they came under fire from enemy machine-gun from across the field. They quickly continued the assault moving down the trench system to the next two guns, eliminating both. Upon disabling the first three guns, several men form Dog Company under Lt. Ronald Spiers relived Lt. Winters and the men of Easy and finished the job by taking out the fourth and last gun.

The Documentary

The documentary titled "The Battle at Brecourt Manor" is a non-profit educational documentary executive produced by Vance Day. Mr. Day who is an attorney and Judge in Salem Oregon is a personal friend of Donald Malarkey. Malarkey who served in Easy Company, 506th PIR also resides in Salem. Around 2000 during the filming and final production of the HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers" Vance Day contacted HBO about doing a documentary on Easy Company. At the time they declined due to the expense of the series. Later on they eventually decided to do a documentary which was titled "We Stand Alone Together - The Men of Easy Company", and was released on the "Band of Brothers" DVD. After HBO decided to do their documentary, Executive Producer Vance Day decided after talking with Buck Compton and Don Malarkey to focus a the project on Brecourt Manor.

After about ten years since its original start, "The Battle at Brecourt Manor" was premiered for the first time during Don Malarkey's 89th Birthday Bash celebration. Hundreds of guests in addition to representatives from the military, fire/rescue, and police agencies from around the state of Oregon were present. This documentary portrays the most accurate and detailed accounts of the battle by using modern day 3-D technology, reenactment video, and the personal accounts of the five men of Easy Company who were in Brecourt Manor. This is all done with an impressive balance that will give viewers the most accurate and detailed understanding possible.

Educational Opportunities - Leadership Training & Public Presentations

On behalf of On-Point Strategies, Executive Producer Vance Day, Promotional Manager Justin Alderman, and Son In-Law of Don Malarkey John Hill are involved in providing many educational opportunities. "The Battle at Brecourt Manor" documentary is provided to qualified educational institutions for a minimal cost. In addition we will be offering free leadership training material to educators that ties in principles of leadership in everyday life, to the actions of the men of Easy Company at Brecourt Manor.

Mr. Day and Mr. Alderman are also available for public presentations related to the documentary, leadership training, Easy Company and WW2 history, and other related material. In some cases Easy Company veteran Don Malarkey is available to participate in these presentations. Members of the Malarkey family have also been involved in public events and presentations as well.  These presentations may in some cases be available to public schools (normally high school level) at no cost if located within or close to Salem Oregon, United States.
